' Making Waves' was painted in Colonsay on the day after the hurricane which hit these shores in January 2005.The following words were penned at the same time.
From shore to shore
water, blistered with
bursting erratic surges,
shifts,
uplifted by tide and wind,
and the might of the depths below.
Islands and mainland
are pounded by the incoming
yet remain resolute,
strong, unflinching,
as cascade upon cascade
shatters itself into broken whiteness
and is then no more;
returned to the mass
to form another wave
and another and another
until at last
the tide is turned,
the wind dies,
calmness is restored.
